FLY BY WIRE REVIEWS
Don't miss this combination
of awesome chops, taste, writing and a nice recording
Listen to Jeff Miller and you will hear a fresh take on the things you
love about Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton Jerry
Read, Danny Gatton and, dare I say, even Mike Landau. Upbeat and
tuneful, this disk is as pleasant to listen to as it is inspiring.
Jeff, you are my new hero! Keep up the good work. PS I would love to
buy one of your way-cool tele vari-teles!
Can't get enough your music
is Awesome......
I was surfing the net and Got Lucky is an understatement this guy is
Great. 5 stars all the way..................
A MUST HAVE for all guitar
nuts!
Technique, Taste, and Variety are the key words that describe this
work by Jeff Miller. Each track is like driving thru a different
neighborhood. Jeff's playing is inspiring as well as impeccable. Grab
this one!
Jeff Miller takes
instrumental guitar albums to the NEXT level!!
When you listen to a guitar instrumental album, what's the first thing
you look for? Great songs with nice hooks? Originality? Something that
takes you on a musical journey without being to overindulgent?
Lightening fast and tasteful licks & phrasing? Well look no further my
friends, you have found that album!! Jeff, in my opinion takes the
guitar instrumental album to the next level where guys like Beck and
Satriani left off. Like the legends before him, he takes so many
different influences & styles of music and has tastefully blended them
to create an awesome style of his very own! Lot's of COOL stuff here!
From Jazz Rock fusion type stuff to Tele stuff with that Brent
Mason/James Burton chicken pickin' twang! This guy covers it all....
and WELL! I've always loved listening to stuff like Beck, Demeola,
Rush (their old instrumental music) and the fairly current guitar
hero's like Vai & Satriani. The one thing about listening to any of
those guys is your hearing true masters of their art that play to say
something instead of just playing out of pure ego, "look at me play as
fast as I can" type stuff. Jeff is doing just what the legends did. He
presents creatively original music that is a pleasure to listen too!
The opening track "Southern Shores" gave me that same feeling I had
when I first heard Al Demelo's "Elegant Gypsy Suite". Not because they
sound similar, because they do not. But because that level of artistry
and technique is still right there, but presented in a totally
original and inspiring new way by Mr. Miller in this excellent song!
Whether your a guitarist or simply a fan of this type of music, this
album is a MUST HAVE! Two Thumbs up for "Fly By Wire"! By the way, as
a foot note. Jeff even builds his own guitars and is a heck of nice
guy to boot! Can you ask for anymore in a guitar hero?
Excellent - Across a
Wide Spectrum of Styles!
Jeff Miller does a great job across a wide spectrum of styles. From jazz
to rock to blues to country this instrumental cd just blows me away. One
of my favorites is Game Music where Jeff switches styles 4 or 5 times in
this one song and yet it magically, musically hangs together as one
piece. Six String Pileup is just crazy with high speed country picking.
This one is gonna live in my cd player for a looong time!
Unbelievable Guitar
Playing-An Exceptional CD
Fly By Wire is an excellent instrumental CD featuring the phenomenal
guitar playing of Jeff Miller. Jeff takes us through a spectrum of music
styles, including jazz, blues, country and rock. The music introduces us
to the tone and flexibility of the Line 6 Variax Guitar and POD, with a
mix of many instruments not found most CD's. I would highly recommend
Fly By Wire to anybody who appreciates not only excellent guitar
picking, but a variety of memorable musical arrangements. This is an A+
set.
Jeff speaks "guitar"...a
master of many dialects.
As a guitar player myself and having many idols the past 30 years, Jeff
ranks among the best guitarists I've heard. From Satriani, to Mason, to
Metheny, Jeff has all those genres covered and adds plenty of PEPPER of
his own. Smooth, melodic, sometimes fast as lighting are his creations,
with all the soul of a true musician. Jeff speaks "guitar" in many
dialects...fluently. If you love guitar and love music...buy it now!!!
Hot country licks, cool
jazz riffs, tasty rock'n'roll...Fly By Wire has it all!
Guitarist Jeff Miller shoots for the stars with a sizzling debut album,
Fly By Wire. Miller's versatility shows throughout the fourteen cuts,
ranging from hyperspeed bluegrass licks on Blackberry Blossom to the
soaring rock themes of Stand Your Ground. Country fans will recognize
the influence of studio legend Brent Mason's rapid-fire Telecaster
licks, though the style is still his own. Miller claws, scratches and
picks through several country scorchers that highlight his impressive
fingerpicking and long, scalar runs up and down the fretboard. Jazz
lovers will appreciate the fusion stylings of Southern Shores, What You
Do and Summer In Cabo. There's touches of West Coast fusion stars like
Lee Ritenour and Larry Carleton in the jazzier tunes, but a sharp rock
edge prevails even over the more complex chord patterns. And he can
rock. Sunday Funk features nasty slides and screeching riffs, Midnight
in Miami growls like vintage ZZ Top and a mid-tempo ballad, The Long
Road Home shows off some tasty blues chops that prove he's more than
just flash and speed. Game music even incorporates a short sitar solo!
Anyone who enjoys well-played, well-produced instrumental guitar music
should find plenty to savor in Fly By Wire.
Great guitar journey lifts
off here.
I have to say that this is a great CD filled with clever tunes and great
tone and playing. Jeff is a very accomplished guitarist and
instrumentalist. This disc is on par with Brent Mason's Hot Wired. Yes
it is that good! Fly By Wire has a little for everyone and is delivered
with white hot playing and a real passion for the music. ***Beware: if
you buy this CD it will not leave your player, maybe ever! Well until
Jeff's next CD.****
Incredible chops
I had heard a few clips from Jeff before on his website but didn't
realize the depth of his playing style. I love the use of country ,jazz
and rock -n- roll through out the entire cd. His chops and tasteful
licks are inspiring. This is a must by for any listener. You just don't
hear much instrumental music out there at this level anymore. Buy this
cd I guarantee it will appeal to many different listeners.
Fantastic! Great variety and
super playing abilities. A must have.
From country to some pretty heavy stuff - this CD has it all. Fast, yet
melodious playing done by Jeff Miller is incredible. Stand Your Ground
sounds very "Vai Like" with a country twist and a little slide thrown in
along with some dual leads! Jeff's excellent playing goes from rock to
country with some in between without a hitch! It's hard to believe that
the same guitarist does all the songs. Tone, execution and style are
phenomenal. What You Do has a George Bensonesque sound with a little
more bite. Overall, I give this album a top rating. It'll be in my
player for a long time. The variety won't let you grow tired of hearing
it. Very impressive!!!
Jeff Miller's
Fly By Wire
One of the hottest pickers around.
An incredible, cohesive combination of tasteful jazz, rock and over the
top, adrenalin infused, country thrash. Should be required listening for
all guitarists! Jeff shows ya how it's done!
- Fat Sound Guitars -
After playing guitar and performing for more than 20 years,
Cincinnati-based Telecaster® shredder, Jeff Miller, has released his
masterpiece - "Fly By Wire."
Featuring 14 tracks, Miller shows why he was featured in "Guitar Player"
and "Guitar World" over the years. While the CD runs the gamut, covering
country licks and metal tricks with equal aplomb, the most impressive
aspect of the CD is its cohesiveness. By playing with a small,
tight-knit group, Miller is able to stretch out while his band keeps the
pocket tight. This is no easy task, and one that sensational-drummer,
Michael Scott, should get a hefty round of applause for. While the
stellar musicianship is more than enough to keep guitarists up at night
scratching their heads, there are more than enough hooks and melodies to
keep the neighbors happy!
- Fender U.S.A. 60 Cycle Hum -
If you were to hear "Game Music" followed by "Blackberry Blossom" off
Ohio guitarist Jeff Miller's new CD, Fly By Wire. you would be
forgiven if there was no way you could believe it was the same
guitarist.
Variety - thy name is Jeff Miller. Here's a guy who delves into country,
blues, jazz-fusion and hard rock, using techniques like string-skipping,
double-stops, bluegrass inspired melodic lines, blazing fast scalar
passages, soulful blues licks and jazzy chord comping - in short, the
kitchen sink - and he's got them all mastered and available in his
musical toolkit at all times. You'll hear it all on Fly By Wire,
fourteen instrumentals that run a gamut of styles, with a clean
production, memorable melodies, solid drumming by Michael Scott, and
that all-important intangible - attitude. Highly recommended CD for
guitar fans open to a large variety of styles on one album - that's not
everyone, but if it describes you, you're in luck!
