TeleAx-3

This is TeleAx #3! Another pre-painted Mighty Mite body. This time in quilt/ash.

TeleAx 3 is complete. I ran into a snag with the output jack circuit board.

They have changed it to rev. C and it is about 1-1/2" longer than the circuit board

that was in my Variax. My output jack was rev. B. The rev C circuit board sticks

up so far in the cavity that it hits the knobs if you use a standard Tele config. I had to

put the passive pot in the back to be able for it to work.

rev B is on the left, rev C is on the right

One red v-ax donor.

This is the connector that runs to all of the pots and 5-way switch.

This is the connector that runs to the battery pack.

This is the connector for the bridge ribbon cable. It has a black lever on

the back side of it. Just flip the lever up and you can pull out the bridge ribbon cable.

After you have disconnected all of the plugs from the circuit board,

unscrew the jack assembly and pull everything out the jack rout.

Test fit to make sure everything will work.

After the output jack rout has been cut.

Now drill the bridge cable hole. It is 1/2". Drill down about 1/2" deep.

Now drill a hole from the rear cavity at an angle to open up the top cable pass-through hole. They should meet.

Here I have the top re-taped and I'm ready to cut the bridge circuit board relief pocket.

A good shot of the output jack rout.

The bridge pocket is cut. It needs to be an 1/8" deep or so.

I have painted the circuit board cavity with shielding paint I got from Stewart-MacDonald.

The bridge is now mounted.

On this TeleAx, I have connected the passive pickups to the unused side

of the Variax 5-way switch. This way you can use the existing Variax 5-way

switch to also select your passive pickup combinations when you have the

passives selected on the A/B switch. When you have the Variax selected on

the A/B, the 5-way works with your Variax tones as normal. This

does away with one mini-toggle like I have on Tele-Ax 2.

The completed guitar.
